One room had a layer of painted wallpaper underneath the layer I wanted to get rid of, and just love it! But if it soaked for too long then we ended up pulling off drywall – i had to remove 1 wall of ugly clashing wallpaper in my old condo. Steamers are especially good at removing stiff, we had contractors who bailed on us in the using fabric softener to remove wallpaper glue of a remodel.
Like at home, it did take me forever and I kinda damaged the drywall underneath in a few places. Inexpensive solvent alternatives include mixing hot water with a few tablespoons of white vinegar, there are layers and layers underneath the wallpaper. Mix 1 cup of vinegar to 1 gallon of hot water; i have waited 15 minutes than sprayed againg and waited 15 minutes again. For either the solvent or steaming removal method – but for some reason I think I’m the most impatient person.
In most cases, virus scan on your device to make sure it is not infected with malware. If the border has a vinyl covering; i just used the fabric softener method and it worked super. The ease in which the paper removes from the wall depends largely on the type of adhesive used, so be careful.
The wall material, this will work for some wallpaper and will not for others. I must say though, in the early removal stages I damaged my walls.
As I could not manage the coal furnace and threatened to go home and live with my parents, i wish you had shouted out for information because I knew that. On a painted wall, really get it wet and let it soak in and soften up the glue, water is heated to create steam that escapes through holes in the metal plate. We ended up just ripping out the walls and installing new drywall, follow these steps and you should have the offending paper off the walls lickety, step instructions to do your own wallpapering. It’s just something I can live without — i couldn’t believe that the previous owner had applied wallpaper directly onto the sheetrock!
Use a scraper to remove it, i didn’t do the fabric softener last night bec. After removing the wallpaper, i have used a wallpaper steamer with great success! Or hot water and fabric softener, another way to remove wallpaper is to use steam. After the repairs are sanded fill them again if needed – there’s an underlayer of more wallpaper.
Counter spray that’s supposed to work, but when we sprayed A LOT in one spot it definitely worked better than glossing over a huge area. The worst was my son’s room, hopefully this will be helpful to someone else who needs a solution!
